Air Overlays is a ATAK plug-in used to display map objects built upon the dafif database. They include, but are not limited to:  Airports (Civilian and Military), Airspace (Boundaries), Heliports, MTR (Mission Training Routes), Navaids, PJA/PJA Regions (Parachute Jump Areas), Refuel Routes, SUAS - (Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems) and Waypoints.

Overlays visibility are controlled through the ATAK Overlay Manager window.  Overlays are displayed on the screen based on current map location as well as map altitude. To control what sub type of each overlay, visit the Air Overlays Preferences in the Tools Preferences. Each overlay contains categories on how to control what types to display and setting the drawing threshold. This drawing threshold controls when the plug-in draws the specific overlay on the map.  A higher altitude will draw at higher elevations and a lower altitude will draw at lower elevation/altitudes.

Files needed for extra functionality:

  • Zones Folder
  • Vertical Obstructions Database
  • Geo Reference Database
  • AeroApp Data

Decenter Mode:  Decenter mode moves the user’s current location to the inverted direction opposite to the current bearing. This feature is useful for viewing obstructions when traveling at a fast rate of speed. The map moves and rotates based on the user’s current bearing so the location is off-centered from the current bearing.

DAFIF Search: Dafif Search - a utility built into Air Overlays Plug-in that uses the dafif database, as well as the zones databases to allow for looking up specific airports, heliports, navaids, PJA,waypoints, OPTIONAL: dropzones, landing zones.

GeoReferencing On NGA approach plates:  This feature allows a user to see their location when using and routing an approach plate into an airport/airfield.
Also displays vertical obstruction (VVOD / TFADS-O) data and Landing Zone (HLZ/LZ/DZ) databases.
